WEEK 20-21  MOON  PATTERNS

The sun, Earth, and moon form a system.  Earth rotates completely on its axis approximately every 24 hours to cause the day/night cycle. The moon revolves around Earth once every 28 days (month).  The moon seems to change shape from day to day. These changes are called moon phases. The phases of the moon are caused by the Moon revolving around the Earth. The moon revolves around Earth, and Earth revolves around the sun. The pull of the moon’s gravity on Earth is the main cause of tides. As a result of this pull, two bulges, or swells, form in Earth’s oceans. As the moon revolves around Earth, the bulges of water change position.  As a result, most shorelines have two high tides and two low tides per day (usually a little more than six hours apart).
